Insurance, FEMA assistance and SBA disaster loans in Escambia County in ZIP 32550

November 5, 2026 · PAJOE Public Adjusters

After a federally declared disaster, a household may have an insurance claim, a FEMA application and a possible disaster loan in progress at the same time. Keep a separate folder for each and a single list of costs. Start with the policy and a timely report to your carrier. Check FEMA and SBA for the programs, locations and application windows that apply to the particular declaration.

Sort receipts by the need they cover

Give each expense a category, such as temporary housing, building repair, contents or debris removal. Keep the receipt, the amount paid and any decision letter identifying who paid for it. If your carrier pays for a hotel stay that you also listed on an assistance application, contact the program with the updated insurance information. An unresolved insurance claim is different from a written denial or a payment for a different expense.

Follow both files as they change

For example, if a carrier initially pays for roof protection while a FEMA application concerns temporary housing, label each item precisely. If a later insurance payment covers the same hotel nights, record the overlap and ask the program how to handle it. Federal assistance depends on program rules and eligibility. An SBA disaster loan is financing, so review the repayment terms before accepting it.
