How to read drying logs after water damage in Gulf Breeze in Milton
November 5, 2026 · PAJOE Public Adjusters
A drying log should help you follow the same part of the house across several visits. Ask the mitigation company for its original records and a room diagram marking each reading. Save the date, meter type, material tested and reading location. A result for drywall cannot necessarily be compared to one for wood flooring or a reading taken with a different instrument.
Follow one surface across the visits
Pick an affected wall or flooring section. Find its first reading, any later readings, the crew’s comparison area and its final observation. Ask where equipment was placed and whether cabinets or other materials blocked access. For example, a drying log might show progress in the open kitchen while saying little about the subfloor under a built-in island. Ask what led the crew to close the job or recommend further work.
Match the documentation to the invoice
Keep daily records alongside photos of equipment, removal and repairs. If a bill shows additional drying days, ask what observations supported those days and which equipment remained. Moisture readings can describe conditions at the time of inspection. A qualified assessment is needed for questions about mold, the original water source or the full extent of hidden damage.
