Evacuation orders and temporary living costs in Midway in Destin

November 5, 2026 · PAJOE Public Adjusters

If an evacuation order affects your Midway address, follow official safety instructions first. Save a copy of the order and any updates when you can. Record the issuing authority, the area covered and the dates and times the restriction began and ended. If roads or utility access were affected separately, keep those notices alongside the order without treating them as interchangeable.

Build an expense record by day

List the nights you stayed away, where you stayed and why you could not return. Save itemized hotel invoices, transport receipts and other relevant records. Record any costs someone else reimbursed. For example, mark three nights away while an order was in force and four more nights after access returned but a qualified person found your house unsafe. Those periods may raise different questions under your policy.

Ask what the policy requires

Look for civil authority, prohibited use and additional living expense wording. Ask which facts, time periods, limits and documents the carrier considers. An evacuation notice can document a restriction without establishing that a particular cost is insured. Keep dated communications about access and the home’s condition so the adjuster can evaluate each part of the timeline separately.
